With the impending ADA Title II compliance deadline, we are all facing stark but manageable challenges remediating years of high-quality course materials into digitally accessible online content. In response, ATLAS created a tool for Moodle instructors called FACT (Functional Accessibility Checking Tool) by analyzing existing accessibility tools and gathering user feedback. FACT makes it simple for instructors to find and fix accessibility issues directly via an editor sidebar offering quick-fix buttons and fill-in-the-blanks to quickly capture the needed information with minimal creator effort.
In this session, the developer, project manager, and accessibility consultant behind FACT will discuss the tool’s core design considerations, the piloting and feedback process, and show a demo of the tool. They will frame the discussion in the larger context of producing high-quality web content and the wide range of benefits that accessible content provides to all users. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for building user-centric accessibility pipelines of their own, regardless of the specific tools used.
