Assistant Director of Research, IMMERSE: Center for Immersive Computing
James Planey is the assistant director of research at the IMMERSE: Center for Immersive Computing at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His past research investigated how immersive technologies such as VR and AR can be meaningfully integrated into science classroom instruction to support student learning as they engage with spatially complex science content. In his role with IMMERSE James works to facilitate connections on campus between researchers developing as well as utilizing immersive technologies, particularly in the fields of education and medical training. His research interests are shaped by his previous experience as a high school science teacher, NGSS curriculum designer, and informal educator.
