    We are proud to present 22 sessions and 16 posters on June 7th. We also have 15 vendors including old friends and some new faces. The theme of the forum, “A Kaleidoscope of Challenges: The Changing IT Landscape of Higher Education”, will be based around five tracks.

        Innovation is a critical resource that is often overlooked. With limited finances, a great place to start is to inventory existing systems and processes that are working efficiently. This presentation will discuss a case study of how innovation has impacted placement testing here at the University.

        2011 – 2012 UI IT Leaders Program (ITLP) Cohort
        What would Illinois look like if we could reframe how we approach our work, to lead from where we are? The Illinois 2011-2012 ITLP group will present 3 (or 4) ways you can go back to work tomorrow and immediately impact your organization and co-workers.       • SCCM as an Enterprise Endpoint Management Service

        In the past few years, endpoint management has always been a topic of discussion around the IT community. This presentation is to inform EPM administrators about System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) which is part of a current endeavor to bring a limited deployment of two endpoint management tools, Tivoli EndPoint Management (TEM) and SCCM, at an enterprise level.

        One of the challenges facing instructors, departments, and IT professionals at R1 institutions is the management of research data and course content, especially information in multimedia formats. Our campus requires a robust information management architecture that makes it possible to locate data and content easily and efficiently. We have now begun developing workflows designed to utilize metadata to improve efficiency.

      • Give Me Some REST and I?ll Give You the World??er, iPhone Apps!

        How should the university?s IT community respond to today?s mobile challenge? I argue that if we focus less on a formal strategy and more on delivering data as a service via REST, the university will respond by creating lots and lots of awesome mobile apps. But talk is cheap?come see how easily a spiffy iPhone app can be created from an existing UIUC REST API.

      • Transparency: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

        Change events alter more than just items such as organizations and services: they change expectations. Previous service levels may no longer be acceptable; cost of services may suddenly be challenged. Transparency can be a key strategy for managing both change events and expectations. This session will discuss the advantages and challenges of being transparent as an IT service provider.

      • The Campus Cluster Program: A Consolidated HPC Service

        The Campus Cluster Program (http://campuscluster.illinois.edu) was initiated to improve our research capacity and competitiveness while decreasing the total cost of research computing. Staffing and infrastructure is centrally provided with researchers responsible only for investing in compute nodes, storage, and specialized software licenses. This session will provide details about the program and its benefits and solicit feedback for future program development.

        Curious as to what has been happening with Data Center Consolidation? Interested in how you can participate? Want to suggest ideas for improving the service? If you answered yes to any of these, please come to this presentation and group session on Data Center Consolidation. We will begin with a brief recap of what has happened in the past two years and where we are right now. Most of the time will be spent in a birds of a feather type session listening and learning on what we can do to improve the Data Center Service for the campus.

      • Records Information Management: Coordination in an Ever-changing Landscape

        This presentation will provide an overview of the Records and Information Management (RIM) Task Force recommendations and the launch of a program to coordinate RIM services such as policy development, records identification, and data management. Participants will be asked to identify issues and pressure points related to records and information management and offer possible solutions, near-term and long-term. Participants are also encouraged to stop by the RIM poster session to leave comments or their contact information.

      • Workshop: Exercising Influence in the Workplace

        An important skill for leaders is their ability to bring ideas to stakeholders and build support. This workshop will help you understand your skills with influencing others and illustrate why those skills are valuable. Participants will receive a questionnaire and asked to complete it during the first session; questionnaire results and what they can mean will be discussed during the second session. Note: This is a workshop led by the facilitators that includes discussion and materials; it will be held over two sessions from 2:30pm to 4:15pm and is limited to 48 participants.

    Spring 2012 Poster Sessions

      Christina Vann Portfolio and Process Management Office (PPMO)
      Internet2 has collaborated with Box to provide an online cloud service at a reduced price that is competitive and comparable to other systems. The University of Illinois has joined with institutions such as Berkeley, Notre Dame, and others to be an early adopter of this service. This session will discuss the pilot project and future plans for an enterprise service.

    • Conserving Energy by Managing University Administration PCs

      A power management project has been implemented for all AITS-supported computers. The goal is to reduce energy use and costs with no negative impact to the user. As a result of the implementation of the power management plan, there have been significant energy and cost savings. This poster session will focus on implementation details, results, and lessons learned.
