      • Mobile Accessibility, Challenges, and Best Practices

        In this session we provide an overview on the current state of accessibility of mobile applications. We will also demonstrate some of the accessibility/usability challenges. Using templates from the iPhone Developer Environment; Dashcode, we model techniques for making mobile apps more accessible and useful to all users.

      • Move from BS to MS with an MIS from UIS

        Learn from colleagues that are obtaining (or have obtained) a Masters degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) from the UIS online program. Presenters will discuss their experiences and provide guidance from lessons learned going through the program.

        What role does higher education have in the next generation of computing? Should higher-ed heed the siren call to ‘get out of the IT business?’ This presentation will answer these questions and propose a global strategy and business model for higher-ed leadership on the new frontier.

      • SharePoint 2010: A Shared Service

        This session will provide an overview of SharePoint 2010, along with current campus examples of how SharePoint is being used as a business solution. This overview will lead into an explanation of the SharePoint Shared Services project _ defining the service, stating project goals and objectives, and discussing how this shared service collaborative can benefit the University of Illinois.

        IT Professionals from Engineering discuss their efforts to migrate to the new campus Active Directory. This session will cover our new OU design and structure as well as the project plan for AD migration and lessons learned from actual implementation.

      • Developing an Illinois Mobile Computing Strategy

        Contributors from across campus are beginning to shape a new mobile computing strategy (http://www.cio.illinois.edu/Mobile_Computing_White_Paper). Mona Heath will provide an update on progress so far, but most of the session will be devoted to brainstorming about what the strategy should include and ways people developing mobile apps and mobile-friendly websites can share expertise.

      • Serving A Growing Customer Support Need

        The ATLAS Moodle service includes consulting, live-online help, a ticket system, workshops/trainings, drop-in office hours, and an online help website featuring articles on common questions. Our customer service model and approaches have changed over time as our user community has grown dramatically over the years. We will discuss our various methods and the challenges they help to manage.

      • Accessibility 101 for Content Creators

        What should every content creator know about the accessibility of materials they use for instruction? Presenters will demonstrate the major accessibility problems with instructional materials people with disabilities using assistive technologies such as screen readers are facing. Attendees will learn how content like web pages, Word and PDF documents can be made more accessible/usable for everyone, including people with disabilities.

      • AD Course Rosters and You

        Join members of the Moodle community and CITES to learn about the CITES AD Rosters and how they’re being used. We’ll cover a practical application of the service used to automate roster and group management in several Moodle sites on campus and talk about some of the hurdles encountered along the way. You’ll also hear about the changes coming in version 3 of AD rosters to be released over Christmas break and what steps you need to take to gain access to course rosters in AD.

      • Beer Koozies & Other Modern Marvels: Designing Multimedia for Online Education

        For students and faculty that thrive on the interaction that takes place the physical classroom, the prospect of online courses can be daunting. Award-winning UIUC instructor, Eric Snodgrass, and his team will discuss how developing multimedia curriculum materials for online education transformed his views on teaching and enhanced his popular course, Atmospheric Science 120, on and off campus.

      • Data Storage Services Task Force Initiative

        We will present an update on the work of the task force to date, and coordinate a discussion around feedback on our work to date, what our next steps will and/or should be, what do folks think we’ve missed as we move forward. The task force plans to make recommendations for the very near future.

      • Value Added: How all work is a process

        All work is a process. This interactive session will introduce Process Management concepts and tools through everyday examples. Participants will come away with a better understanding of how to make their processes more effective and efficient, and why technology isn’t always the answer. An introduction to the Portfolio and Process Management Office will also be provided.

        The National Science Foundation, and other funding agencies, now require all grant proposals to include a data management plan (DMP). We will talk about efforts to provide guidance and resources for creating DMPs: DMPTool , a flexible online tool to help researchers generate DMPs, and a Scholarly Commons website and services focused on data management and DMPs.

        Learn about FAE 2.0 and Accessibility Inspector for Firefox open source web accessibility evaluation and inspection tools. The next generation tools provide the capability to analyze Web 2.0 technologies for accessibility features and use the industry standard OpenAjax rule set for WCAG 2.0 evaluation to support the latest accessibility features of Accessible Rich Internet Application (ARIA) technologies and HTML5.

The User Experience Design team is nearly finished migrating the 2,500-page CITES website from Dreamweaver to Drupal. Come learn about our tips, tricks, timelines, and new features _ and tell us what you’d like to see next.

        Engineering IT deployed a new suite of Linux management for its labs, servers, desktops, clusters, etc. From deployment, to software and configuration management, to AD integration, to monitoring, learn what works (and doesn’t work) about a project we call ‘the Linux’

      • Identity and Access Management (IAM) – Fall 2011

        The IAM team has completed the IAM product selections. There were two products selected to address the ‘Identity Provisioning and Administration’ and ‘Access Management’ needs. The first product includes workflow technology to manage access requests, account provisioning, compliance process, role and profile, and passwords. The Access Management product provides an enterprise wide authentication, Single Sign-On (SSO), federation, and some level of authorization. The implementation of both products will allow the University to simplify the management of identity and streamline access to identity data by enterprise as well as departmental applications. At this presentation the team will discuss the project governance structure, staffing, and timeline.

Similar to mentoring, peer coaching differs in that both partners in a peer coaching relationship are considered coaching equals, regardless of differences in organizational rank.
